They found that:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">If a friend who lives within half a mile of you gets happy, your chances of happiness increase by 42%.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">If that happy friend lives a mile away from you, your chances of happiness increase \u201conly\u201d by 25%.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Siblings who live close to a happy sibling increase their chances of happiness by 14%.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Just imagine the ripple effect of what a couple of employees who are happy, engaged, positive, confident, and motivated could have on your workplace.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">2. More Productive<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">As author and speaker Shawn Achor writes: \u201c<em>It turns out that our brains are literally hardwired to perform at their best not when they are negative or even neutral, but when they are positive.<\/em>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Therefore, it should come as no surprise that happy and engaged employees are more productive. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gallup.com\/workplace\/236366\/right-culture-not-employee-satisfaction.aspx\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gallup research shows<\/a> that highly engaged business units are 17% more productive.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">3. Higher Retention Rates<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">It\u2019s simple. If an employee is happy and engaged in their work, feels connected to and invested in the company, has opportunities for growth and development and is compensated well, there\u2019s no reason to go elsewhere. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gallup.com\/workplace\/236366\/right-culture-not-employee-satisfaction.aspx\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gallup research finds<\/a> that in high-turnover organizations, highly engaged business units see 24% less turnover and low-turnover organizations see an incredible 59% less turnover. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">4. Higher Profitability<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">As stated above, happy and engaged employees are more productive. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gallup.com\/workplace\/236366\/right-culture-not-employee-satisfaction.aspx\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gallup research<\/a> finds that highly engaged business units result in 21% greater profitability.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">5. Fewer Sick Days<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Happy employees don\u2019t experience <em>Sunday Night Dread<\/em> because they like what they do, they enjoy the social interactions, they enjoy creating value and enjoy being part of the company\u2019s success. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">As a result, happy employees take fewer sick days.
