Participants were asked to complete questionnaires about their mood, workload and performance on days they went to the gym compared to days they did not. 79% said mental and interpersonal performance was better on days they exercised, and 74% said they managed their workload better.<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Numerous studies, like the one above, have concluded that exercise and workplace productivity go hand in hand. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\">Here are five ways that exercise can help increase productivity:<\/span><\/h3>\n<h4><strong><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">1. More Alert and Receptive:<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18px;\">When we exercise, we increase blood flow to the brain, which can help sharpen awareness and help us to focus on our tasks. As shared <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/08\/16\/well\/move\/how-exercise-could-help-you-learn-a-new-language.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">in an article in The New York Times<\/a>, \u201cscientists suspect that exercise alters the biology of the brain in ways that make it more malleable and receptive to new information, a process that scientists refer to as plasticity.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18px;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>2. Better Time Management and Work-Life Balance:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>The Next Web highlights an article published in the Harvard Business Review, which showed that people who stick with their regular exercise routine experience less trouble finding work-life balance, surmising that \u201cstructured activity helped them become better at time management and more confident in their ability to pull off the demands of both work and home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">As stated in one of our earlier articles <a href=\"\/productivity-and-why-what-you-do-outside-work-is-just-as-important-as-what-you-do-at-work\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">on productivity and work-life balance<\/a>, humans are dynamic, multifaceted creatures and, in order to thrive, all the different components that make us whole need to be satisfied. This means in addition to our need for interesting (and meaningful) work, we also need time with our families, strong social connections, hobbies and interests outside of work, and so forth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/thrive-global\/why-well-being-has-everything-to-do-with-productivity-bc89ecc09959\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Thrive Global article<\/a> cites the book <em>This Morning Routine will Save You 20+ Hours Per Week<\/em>, and shares that \u201cwhat you do outside work is just as significant for your work-productivity as what you do while you\u2019re working.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>3. Sense of Accomplishment:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/worklife\/article\/20190116-why-you-should-exercise-during-the-workday---and-how\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">One article<\/a> reports on the benefits of exercising during the workday. In the article, Peter Antonio, a personal trainer, fitness instructor and registered nutritionist at the University of Birmingham Sport says that working out during your lunch break \u201cgives you a mid-day sense of accomplishment which can last for the remainder of the day\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">This sense of accomplishment can give you more energy to tackle other tasks in the afternoon.<br \/><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn2.hubspot.net\/hubfs\/2798830\/All%20Markets\/Blog%20images\/excerise-and-workplace-productivity-goes-hand-in-hand.jpg\" alt=\"excerise workplace productivity\" width=\"689\" height=\"460\" style=\"width: 689px; margin: 15px 0px; height: auto; max-width: 100%;\"><br \/><\/span><br \/><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>4. Eliminate Fatigue:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Your sitting at your desk, it\u2019s 15:00 and you\u2019re about to make yourself another cup of coffee in the hope that it gives you some much-needed energy to make it through the rest of the afternoon. Sound familiar? <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">Researchers have found that exercise can decrease chronic fatigue and provide us with more energy. It should come as no surprise that working out at the gym during lunch or taking a brisk 30-minute walk is a more effective way of combating fatigue and finding more energy than drinking multiple cups of coffee.<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\"><strong>5. Find That Creative Breakthrough:<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">We\u2019ve all been there; you\u2019re stuck on a project, unable to find a solution or workaround, or can\u2019t put the finishing touches to your presentation. Exercise can often help provide that creative breakthrough. <\/p>\n<p><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.stanford.edu\/2014\/04\/24\/walking-vs-sitting-042414\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18px;\">Stanford University shares<\/a><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; background-color: transparent;\"> how Steve Jobs was known for his walking meetings and that Facebook\u2019s Mark Zuckerberg has also been seen holding meetings on foot.
