Some employees might be starting out and others might be closer to retirement. How does a company handle total rewards and benefits when there are obvious generational gaps between employees?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3>For young employees:<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-size: 18px;\">As we have covered in other <a href=\"\/benefits-are-key-for-employee-retention-and-acquisition\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">blogs<\/a>, talent acquisition has become a problem during the pandemic and hybrid \/ remote work has now become part of the norm when it comes to work practices. Offering a generous total reward and benefits package that includes simple things such as gym membership, insurance, and retail discounts are key when attracting the younger generation of employees.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/2798830.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na1.net\/hubfs\/2798830\/Employee_Age_Groups_1.jpg\" alt=\"Employee Age Groups Discussion\" width=\"680\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"width: 680px; margin: 10px; height: auto; max-width: 100%;\" height=\"439\"><\/p>\n<h3>For older employees:<\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-size: 18px;\">The same <a href=\"https:\/\/www.benify.com\/platform\/total-reward\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">total rewards and benefits<\/a> should be available to the older generation of workers but with one exception: when it comes to thinking about retirement. According to credit management company, <a href=\"https:\/\/hrnews.co.uk\/one-in-eight-brits-are-delaying-retirement-for-up-to-10-years-due-to-debt\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lowell<\/a>, 17% of British employees are delaying their retirement by at least 5 years due to debt, with a further 12% thinking about making it at least 10 years. In the USA, a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cleveland.com\/news\/2021\/11\/survey-says-older-employees-now-putting-off-retirement-during-great-resignation.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">survey<\/a> stated that 30% of people over 65 said they expect to postpone their retirement by 3 years. The survey went on to say that \u201cthese delayed retirements are negatively affecting workers and business.\u201d<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"font-size: 28px;\">Catering for a broad spectrum of employee ages is crucial<\/h4>\n<p style=\"font-size: 18px;\">In a previous blog, we advised how benefits are key for employee retention, but we also highlighted how important it is to support <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">all<\/span> workers when it comes to their <a href=\"\/financial-wellbeing-communicating-with-employees-about-their-finances\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">financial wellbeing<\/a>, especially in times of high inflation. For young employees, a health and wellness contribution could really make a difference to them, but what about older employees?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hrnews.co.uk\/95-think-its-increasingly-important-to-support-employees-approaching-retirement\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jonathan Watts-Lay<\/a>, Director at WEALTH at Work, a financial wellbeing and retirement company in the UK, stresses that it\u2019s becoming increasingly important to support workers are thinking about retirement \u2013 and this also includes employees that are <a href=\"https:\/\/hrnews.co.uk\/one-in-eight-brits-are-delaying-retirement-for-up-to-10-years-due-to-debt\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">aged 45+<\/a>, who may feel confused about their current financial state and feel they might not be able to ever retire.<\/p>\n<p>Watts-Lay says, \u201cEmployers play a key role in ensuring that employees make informed choices at the point of retirement.
